SUMMARY:Taranto Night
DESCRIPTION:Taranto Night is celebrated with Mess Dinners in HM Ships and Royal Naval Air Stations around the Fleet. \nPhoto by Tony Hisgett from Birmingham\, UK. From Wikipedia.\nYou can celebrate your own Taranto Night wherever you are\, be it at home\, afloat or ashore\, in the garden. You get the idea. \nThe Battle of Taranto took place on the night of 11–12 November 1940 during the Second World War between British naval forces\, under Admiral Andrew Cunningham\, and Italian naval forces\, under Admiral Inigo Campioni. The Royal Navy launched the first all-aircraft ship-to-ship naval attack in history\, employing 21 Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious in the Mediterranean Sea. \nYou can find a list of the customs and the traditions of Taranto night on the excellent Navy Wings Website. \nHowever you celebrate it\, be safe and have a good time.
